One of my male canaries has injured his left leg. I have removed all perches and have seed scattered across the floor and he has access to water which I spied him having a drink of before. I have paper on the bottom of his cage and he is just ripping at that currently. He doesn't appear to be able to get around much at all?
I can see no blood around the leg and it is still pink. He also has a slight bit of diaherroa which I assume is due to the shock.
Can anyone give me any advice on what to do with him other than what I am currently doing now? I could take him to an Avian Vet, but I have to get into see the Vet...fairly popular.
Thoughts?

Besides what you are already doing, I would put a heat lamp of some sort on one end of the cage. When ill or injured, heat can do wonders for the bird. This can be a simple as a gooseneck desk lamp with a 60w bulb aimed at one end of the cage. The important thing is that the bird is able to get away from the heat lamp if it gets too warm.

Re: Canary injured its left leg
Sounds like more than a leg injury. Heat, eggfood, electrolytes, sublingual B12 dissolved in water and a broad spectrum antibiotic, if you can't get him to a vet. Good luck. Bob

He is off the an Avian Vet this arvo at 3pm. So I am hopeful he can assist. This Canary was a birthday present for my mum a month ago.
I now have a light over him too.
