Subtle signs of...something (worried)

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

sandri_90 We had them years ago, and loved them but haven't had them for a long time. My mother always had them also. They're great birds. So smart and so entertaining. Do boys do well together? I'm not sure what they will be as they are very young. How are they if there are three together. I'm afraid I may not want to leave one behind if I have a choice of two...and also worry I may pick a male and leave a female. If I took two, I would have more of a chance. I just want to know the answer to these questions before we get them later today. :D

Yes, boys do well together. Budgies live in colonies, so they will get along great, males and females. Mine never fought, so don't worry. :D
I also recommend you read this article, although sexing a baby budgie is tricky (as it is with so many more species of birds)

Also, I've noticed that they aren't like zebras when it comes to possessiveness and jealousy. Mine didn't fight over males or over females.

So, if you have to right housing conditions and enough space: TAKE 'EM ALL!! :YMPARTY:

sandri_90 Thanks for that information. My husband wasn't going to go for more than one bird. I did well to convince him of one more. I'm working on him slowly. I love the article. I did watch a you tube video that had some of the same info about the young male having a pink cere vs young female having a white one. I didn't see your post on time and I'm happy I saw the video. Your post confirms what that girl said...and I picked out the "girl" with the white cere. She is bright yellow, as bright as one of your canaries with white cheek patches and RED eyes. Her tail is a little like a fan, not straight feathers. Her eyes freak me out a bit. I will have to get used to them. I want more, wanted more. Well if all goes well, they can mate down the road and make more. :D I put the baby girls cage next to Jo Jo's cage. She was a little in shock from the ride and she was very unsure of him. He was IN LOVE! He started singing sweetly...in a low tone...something I never heard from him ever before. It was awesome. Then he started ringing all his bells. He has a lot of them. Show off! I took one bell out. One of his favorites...to give to her. He was NOT happy. Gave me a dirty look. I had to give her that one because he has a Tree Top cage and it's impossible to hook and unhook the toys. It was the only one I could unhook. Her bells are coming in the mail soon. I need to get a picture of her...with my awful camera.

Awesome!! I am so happy for you :D I had a white female budgie with red eyes as well, she was a beauty!

I can't wait to see the pictures!
I also wish for them to mate and give you some real beautiful babies. Mine didn't mate at all, but I had about 9 of birds in total (2 cockatiels and 2 lovebirds) and it didn't even cross my mind
