Canary stiff legs and loose droppings
I have an eight year old male American singer who has developed some sort of problem with his legs. One more than the other seems very red and he is unable to put less and less pressure on it over the last few wks. There is also some redness on the underside of his beak. I've also noticed his droppings have become somewhat runny and of course he is not singing. He sits on one perch all day unable to move from side to side without great discomfort and pain. His legs seem very stiff. I have taken him to a vet who gave him Iverlux, an antibiotic and Silver Sulea cream for his legs. I've been treating him for four days and it seems he's going down hill with no results on the meds. Any ideas on what I'm dealing with and what I might try would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I don't know anything about canaries, but there are folks here who do. Just wanted to say hi and hope you get the info you need to make your little guy all better!

I don't know anything about canaries either. Hopefully, someone who does have some experience with them will chime in. Since you have taken him to an avian vet, I would check back with the vet to report that there is not any improvement and that he seems worse.

Re: Canary stiff legs and loose droppings
Thanks Sally for the forum advice. I have made the change.
As for my canary. Things still aren't looking very good. Found him on the floor of the cage this morning. His little feet are so stiff. And he's just fluffed with his eyes shut. It's incredibly hard to watch. Spoke to my vet and another one in Raleigh today. I was told I'm doing everything correctly. Next steps would be blood work. And probably heavy meds. If he survived the hour and a half trek one way.
