Greetings all,
I received a pair or canary's ( male and female - dont know their age) as a present and the female is always layings eggs but no babies. She sits on the eggs for while and from what i can see the male is doing his thing also. They always in the same cage together, is that a problem? what could i be missing? Please do ask me some questions as i'm sure you need more info.
much appreciated.

Re: Canary Breeding Question
I can't help you, as I know nothing about canaries, but we do have some members who should be able to help you. I do want to welcome you to the forum! There's lots of good reading at the Finch Information Center, linked at left. Most of the articles are about finches, but some of the information is basic to caged birds. If you put your general location in your profile, it helps when answering locale-specific questions.

Re: Canary Breeding Question
Hi, i'll try to help and have a few questions.
So long as the're not fighting and the cock is not tormenting the hen/destroying the eggs or nest then i'd definately leave them together, it's always better to have both parents raising the chicks.
By the cock doing his thing, i presume he's signing and mounting her implying a definate male/female pair ?.
When is the normal breeding season for canaries in your area ? Over here it's march to june and the canaries are generally starting to moult at this time and won't breed successfully.
You also say you've no idea of their age so it's possible they could be either too young or too old, any rings on legs ?, if yes then check to see if year is marked on them
How many days is the hen incubating the eggs for ? if she's sitting for full 14 days then either cock is firing blanks, too young or not in condition/season
What type of nest/nesting material are you using ?

Re: Canary Breeding Question
apologies for the extremely late reply.
From my observations this is what is happeneing.
so i see them "kissing" like when a parents feeds a chic sort of thing. then the male would mount here. can be quiet regular . Normaly i see it when i get ready for work in the mornings but i have also noticed that sometimes he literally chases her around the cage to mount her and i yell at him to stop ahahha as i can see her breathing when he stops chasing her. is this normall?
This week i noticed the egg on the floor of the cage, could that of been her or him? and i beleive she is back laying.
what could be the problem? is the nest and nest material that i have provided not effective? would do pepople recommend?
Prior to this she was in with another female , the other female got aggressive and plucked the feathers on her head and some around her neck havent come back ( its been 6 months), is this normall aswell?
