if i were you i'd try to get another agate hen, agates are self coloured birds and std mosaics are clear birds so you'd end up with variegated chicks with the hens being variegated agates ( all would also have red mosaic colouring )

Thank you for the page, I'll definitely study it thoroughly. Anyway, what is wrong with the variegated birds. My uncle only explains to me that they are not good for selling as the price is low. But making money is not my concern, so what is wrong with that?

I like the variegated canaries, but I don't know if that is considered a fault in showing or not. If you like them, who cares? If you're not selling them, then it doesn't matter as long as you enjoy them.

Yes, I'd like to get some variegated canaries too. I looked around the internet and stunned by their beauty, they are a little odd looking but nice. My concern is about the genes, I don't know if there are any genetic defects in these birds. If there is none, then I'm going for them. I'm about to get a pair of 5 month-old red factor too, so I have plenty of choice.

Hi guys, it's been a while and I'm still finding the way to go with the canaries. Previously, I got a red mosaic male with ASM symptoms and put him on treatment with ivermectin as mentioned in the above posts. But now it seems like he is loosing weight very quickly. He is running around as normal, no obvious sign of trouble except for stop singing for a month and eat more than he used to. Strangely, he loosing weight as I can see his ribs out of the skin. I'm wondering why and how to give him treatment. Diet is definitely not the reason as the other canaries on the same diet are doing very fine and getting fat too much that may give me some concern. So, I suspect there are other reasons but have no idea what they are.
