Goodbye My Kevin...

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Goodbye My Kevin...

Post by Zebrafincher » Wed Apr 01, 2015 7:29 pm

I just had to have my lovely, lovely canary, Kevin put down. I found a number of tumors on his body, including one very large one on his chest. I only checked him maybe a month ago (looked over his body for lumps) so its spread very, very quickly. I am devastated. He was 14 - and I had already decided if something happened I was not going to put him through surgery. It was too much for a small bird, and who would I be doing it for? Him? Or me?

Its the last, worst, and kindest thing you have to do for a pet. As much as you love them, you have to be able to recognise when its time to say goodbye. I loved my canary so much - and no doubt I will get more birds in time (I still have a star finch, Merl, and Beaky, my Zebra finch)...but it just hurts so much.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings. Its my only way to grieve. I am heart broken.

Oh no! Poor Kevin. I can tell you loved him. Many people don't spend the money to put down a small animal. I'm glad you loved him enough to let him go and avoid the pain.
Rest in peace and fly free little Kevin. You are loved little one.

So sorry to hear about Kevin. As hard as it is to let go, you obviously loved him and didn't want him to suffer. Fly free, Kevin!

Very sorry for your loss but find comfort in the fact that you were strong enough to do the right thing for him. Many people think of themselves emotionally in a difficult situation like that instead of the animal or bird. It was the kindest last thing you could do for him......fly free little one.

Thankyou every one for your kind words. It is really appreciated.

I was very much attached to that old Canary of mine, Kevin, and will continue to miss him..
