Re: When to check or remove eggs
Animalzoo yes Toopay is the older one. It's still hard to tell if I have any crested heads yet. None of them look like their mother. There all yellow and 2 of them look just like daddy.

Jamm972 OMG gorgeous!!!
So glad they're coming on nicely. That one on the left looks like crested isnt it?
So sweet. Hows the other eggs doing? Still in the nest?

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Animalzoo so today I went to remove the food for the evening and found a half egg on the floor in Blanca's cage. I was very upset and started scolding both Blanca and Zorro, then I realized one of the eggs hatched
So 1 more to go it is about ready as well when I candled them. Wont be candling Toopay's for a few more days but still am preying.

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Jamm972 Oh great news! Congratulations. So possibly today the other egg will hatch? I've found the empty egg shell on the floor as well. They throw them out while doing house cleaning. I'm up early today and about to go see the birds to check them so will update you later. I'll try to get some photos of the fledglings too.

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Animalzoo
So Blanca's 2 eggs officially hatched.
Whitey and Donald's babies have all fledged so just waiting for them to be weaned. I have a feeling that Whitey will start laying her next clutch in a few days. She has been begging Donald to come and procreate.
Few more days and I will check Toopay and Nonames eggs.
I put brownie by his/herself, and I moved Tails to another divded breeder cage to see if Stud and Tails will show any signs of wanting to become mates. I'm just afraid that maybe its already to late in the season but if Whitey and Blanca can do it so cant the other ones.
I also put orangie back in with Yellow because when Orangie was in hhis own cage Yellow was at the side of the breeder cage begging for orangie and paying no attention to Stud. Thise 4 birds are just very confusing this year.
So that's my update. I'm just waiting for the new babies to past the crucial 48 hour mark. 1 is little over 24 hours and the other one just hatched.
Will keep ya updated and posted

Jamm972 Yes I think I'm about 7 or 8 hours in front of you, hehe. I tend to wake up to your evening updates. I wrote my first message today just before 9am and its now 11pm. So all the babies are to bed now and I'll be off there soon.
I took some photos today. The babies are all doing well and so far there are no new eggs so just another day in the bird room....
The 4 babies from Jack and Jill....

Romeo and Juliets 3 babies....

And look how Sonny and Cher's firt baby is growing up. It's amazing how quick they get there!

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Jamm972 Great news on Blancas egga. I'm holding my breath they'll be ok.
Whitey and Donald are at the same stage as Jack and Jill. I'm waiting for her to start laying as well although both mum and dad are still feeding the young through the bars.
I think your other 4 birds will get there. Orangie and Yellow obviously like each other but the way I see it is if they're not fighting leave them to it indefinitely. Add and nest and give them the best diet and let them just be. You've got 2 other couples having a great time with babies so you're 50% there.
As you say ttyl

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Animalzoo So the babies are hogging the new nest from mom. But they aren't eating seed yet on their own. I'm thinking of separating them and hope mom and dad still feed through the bars. they are flying like crazy though. They are eating leafy greens on their own I believe.
Any advice I hope you get this soon before I go to bed need the advice asap. I don't want the new nest being soiled bye the young ones.
Also I found both babies of Blancas on the bottom of the cage. Frustrating. Blanca was waiting for me to pic them up and ptut them back in. one of the babies isn't fully covered by mom. I hope he will be ok. They have worked so hard. I am thinking Zorro the daddy is going to fast onto and off the nest jerking them out. I don't think Mom is doing it.
Should I separate mom and dad for the time being until the babies get stronger ?
I don't see Blanca get off the nest much to feed herself though Zorro was doing most of that.

Not sure I've caught you before you've headed to bed but you can read this first thing perhaps. I'd divide the babies from the new nest leaving whitey and donald together. They can feed the babies through the bars no problem. This is the setup I have for jack and jill right now and babies are fine. Make them some eggs mashed up as well as the greens because my weaned baby started on the eggs before the seed. It only took him a few days.
no I wouldn't separate blanca from zorro because he will be feeding her. This is the newly hatched babies right? If so mums are meant to feed most in the first 4-5 days with dad feeding mum. Mums can toss chicks out when they do house cleaning so I'm suspicious it's blanca doing this more so than a clumsy dad. Just keep a close eye on them and good luck.

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Animalzoo I will seperate the chicks tomorrow. Just not sure how I'm going to set the egg food in their side of the cage. I do think have a plate small enough to fit inside. I have bowls though.
Yeah the babies keep ending up on the bottom of the cage floor. If this keeps happening. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Maybe see if Noname wants to foster them. All I can do for now is keep putting them back in the nest. I just don't want them getting hurt from being thrown out of the nest. Give them 1 more day and hopefully they will stay in this time.

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Keep me posted once you're up. Sometimes the mum will stop throwing out the chicks. So maybe it'll stop by itself. They grow so quickly that mum will work it out I'm sure.
Theres no news my end really. Only new thing is now Lucky is feeding Scully and shes eagerly building her nest so they are doing ok. We've been clearing out budgie babies today so I'm getting more cages being made available. I just ran out of time to clean and disinfect them but this will be where Mulder is going and then the fun part, new girls to go shopping for.

Re: When to check or remove eggs
Animalzoo Woke up and checked the cage. no babies on the floor. I think she got the hint or learned not to do that. They both have been feeding them. Zrro has been wanting to tap Blanca again. he needs to slow down. They both come from an aviary cage. I don't want them to stressed. now that blanca has had 1 successful Clutch I will only allow her 1 more attempt for round 2. After that rest until next year.
I would rather pair up Zorro with another Hen then put blanca through that stress.
I took out the divider for Stud and Tails, they aren't fighting, and I observed Stud feeding tails
Keeping fingers crossed that tails will learn how to build a nest. But I don't want the same issue that Tails had with Brownie.
2 more days and I candle Noname and Toopays eggs. Fingers crossed for them.
Maybe they just need an experienced teacher is all and next year will be way better.
babies are strong. Whitey is begging Donald to procreate and he does with no hesitation. Babies stopped being to greedy and were only sitting at the edge of the new nest. I will give them another day or 2. I'm hoping Blanca will lay her first 2 eggs and then I can just separate Dad from mom and Dad can finish weaning the babies.
Will update you after I get home from work.
