Canary cage fell - Worried -

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Sandra, I'm not sure about the singing. I don't know much about canaries. I will tag someone that may know the answer. How is he doing otherwise? Does he seem like he's in pain? Is he fluffed up?
I will tag sandri_90. She has canaries. Maybe she can help you. She is in Europe time zone so it may be a while.

He seems ok. Less active, less curious. He still eats but nothing like before!

He hasn't even molted yet and isn't molting at this time still.

Sandra Try to remain calm! If he didn't broke a bone, he should be fine. He certainly had a traumatic experience and maybe even sprained a muscle or something, but don't despair, please... Animals are resilient - so much more resilient than us, humans.

I know how frightened you must be, it happens to all of us.

And no, his singing will not be permanently affected, he just has to regain is "zen balance" and will soon start to sing again. Try to give him some treats, fruits, eggs - just to get him excited about something. Put some canary songs on, talk to him.
Animals can feel the energy better than us, so try and be cheerful around him. It really helps pets when their owners have faith in them!

And also, it's moulting time. So that may also contribute to its mood. Canaries don't really sing much when they are moulting.

Just stay calm and have some faith! :D

P.S. Every canary is different, some start to moult in the middle of August.

Thanks sandri_90! I knew you would know. I love learning too for my canary I get some day. Sandra, Sandri has beautiful canaries... and finches and has a lot of experience with them so I'd take comfort in what she says. (She has great pictures on her posts!) :D

Thank you so much sandri_90 and Corkysgirl!! Its kinda silly but I haven't slept well since his fall. I feel so responsible. I miss his singing so much our place is not the same anymore.

I'm a little more positive. Buddy loves broccoli and hemp seeds, so he's been spoiled with those, also grapes.

Awww he's so cute! That's all he needs is love and attention and as Sandri said, just believe the best and he will feel it! Good idea about the singing videos. Even if he doesn't sing for a while because he's going into a molt, I'm sure he'll appreciate hearing songs from his fellow canaries. :D

Corkysgirl and sandri_90 are you able to open this link? This is Buddy singing his little heart out. I hope to hear it again!

Wow, that's the best canary singing I ever heard! Do you play his own songs back for him? You probably are. That's what I would do so he could hear himself, and remember, so he will sing again...soon! :D

Thank you. I hope he will sing again like he used to. He's still very quiet, but is eating and drinking water.

I would wait until his molt is over and if he's not singing soon thereafter, then I might get concerned. He's probably just working on molting soon, plus still getting over the trauma of the fall. I think he will be fine. Saying a prayer that all will be well with him! [-o<

Corkysgirl, looks like Buddy is molting! Today, I noticed tiny little fluffy feathers at the bottom of the cage that were not there yesterday!

Poor Buddy, the trauma of the fall ..... and just days after, the molting!

Well at least maybe that's why he's not singing. Poor boy! He'll get through this and come out the other side singing and handsome as ever! [-o< :D
