Red American Singer Canaries 27

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

The canary man wrote: Hello.. Q
canary young,s first grown feathers will always show the original genetic feathers color even if they wear color fed, in fact they will appear lighter than their parents color or even completely different.

But why we feed them the red color from the first day of hatching since their first grown feathers will not pick the color?
This way we keep the color in their system getting it ready for the first molting in their life .

The Cardinal young's will born brown color not red, but when their parents feed them food that contain the Beta keratin which is contain the orange and the red color they will store it in their system until the first molting then the red color will start showing on their new grown feathers .

New born canary will molt twice during the first year of age :
1) when they become 3 months old.
2) when they become 9 month old, which is they become close to the maturity age (one year old) .
But pay attention to this... when they become 45 days old they will start having soft molting which is 4 to 6 feathers will drop out of their bodyonly in some areas that has the smallest size feathers getting ready to molt the medium feathers when they reach the age of 3 months old. And when they reach the heavy molting time (9 months old) they will molt mostly the rest of the biggest feathers in their body as Wings and Tail plus few small and medium feathers .

Its God will to manege their molting this way because, if all the young,s and adults feathers molts at one time then the canary young body will not be able to feed all the feathers at once and he will be left with just skin and bones, not able to fly,etc.... then they will die . Thats why molting start slowly and divided in different months through out the year .

Any feather will drop out of the young's body either by molting, plucked by the parents or, pulled out by the breeder it will pick the color that was fed to them immediately during their growing time .

Dante.. Pass this info to your Uncle please and see what he think about it as a canary breeder. :D

The following pic of a grown cardinal and his young will prove my explanation to the molting and color food.

Thank you Dean - This is wonderful information - Thanks for sharing as always
p/s learn something from the bird club last night as well - some people will take the canary eggs away until they all done laying from the mama bird ( replace with plastic eggs) then they are put all back - this will help for all the chicks hatched at the same day ... no little run... Now the idea sounds great in theory - It worked form some - Did you ever try Dean?
