My canaries - red factor and mosaics

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Blake, they are all stunning, absolutely beautiful!! I love the softness of the white in picture 5. The Agate Split to Pastel is one of my favorites. Your Red factors are very pretty also! Thank you for sharing these!

Blake they are all coloring up beautifully... question on the ino mosaic.. what makes you think hen? the way it acts? stance? I always like to hear wghat other breeders look for in their young birds.

I really like the striation markings on that agates breast and belly.. I didn't realize they had these markings... I like :D
Will you be showing any of these?

In mosaics you look for the heavy yellowing in certain areas (where you know is supposed to be read in adult males). In my pic of the agate juvy you can see the mustardy yellow going down his belly and under his beak (chin area) and around his eyes where his mask will be. That'll all turn red.

You can also see it in my red lipochromes, some have heavy yellowing in the chest and face region where they'll have red compared to their buff to white body feathers; others, have little to none and those will be females.

In pic 10 you can just see the face/head of my pastel male; you see how there is yellow compared to the rest of his juvy body plumage? That'll be read. I can almost guarantee that my agate male mentioned above will have a small face mask. :( Was hoping for a larger more defined mask. Maybe I'll be wrong. :)

About the Ino, I'm not seeing a lot of yellow on the bird which leads me to believe it might be female. But I could just not be seeing it because it's so dark. We'll see what happens by September.

I don't think I'll have time this year to show in October. My local in house show in September is when I'll be on my honeymoon drooling over the hundreds of bird species...and of course admiring my new wife. :)

I'm glad I took these photos. It's giving me a chance to study my birds better w/o them flying around. I'm already getting an idea of what some of them will look like with adult plumage and I can already see that I might have to be more selective in breeding next year. Some pairs may not be paired up next year or I will just sell them this year.
