STEVE JUNIORS!?

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

OH MY GOODNESS!

How exciting!!!! Your first "Weaver" canary!

And how CAYOOOOT! Look at him!!

Canary babies are so adorable.
They look part giraffe by the way they extend those looooong necks to beg!
And they have such big beaks - they look too big for their head! So awkward and adorable!

And what lovely little eggs!
I'd use the infertile ones for crafts! LOL

I needs to get me a canary.

How beautiful! Canary babies look like little muppets. This one looks like a dark colored one. In a little while you'll be able to tell if it has a crest.

Baby number two came today, this second chick is noticeably lighter in color.

Walter seems to have completely abandoned his parenting duties today and did not, to my knowledge, feed or notice his mate or offspring at all today. Is this typical for canaries?

Some males are not good parents at all, while others are better. As long as Steve is being a good mom (shame, poor bird is going to have an identity crisis with that name, hahaha) the chicks will be fine :D

Keep us updated!!!

Rox Steve is being a very good mother and keeping both babies extremely well-fed. Their crops are nice and plump. She only gets off them for one-two minute intervals to flutter about and quickly take in some seed, egg and greens before hopping right back on to the nest.

Walter is pursuing a new partner already in our other hen, who's very slowly warming up to his advances. For the longest time those two hated one another, but times are changing, it seems, as Kari is coming into breeding condition.

Glad Steve is being a good mom. I always feel sorry for canary hens, left to do all the work themselves.

And in hindsight, one of my favorite female singers is Stevie Nicks. So it's actually a great name for a hen!

Congrats on baby #2.

So Walter, is a faithless scamp, eh?

Glad that Steve, is a good Mommy.
