Re: canary beak over grown!
Just wanted to throw this out there, if you add vinegar to the water please be sure she's drinking it. A lot of birds will not drinking water with vinegar added especially at the dosages that are supposed to cure things. Seeing how she is already pretty ill you wouldn't want her to stop drinking.

debbie276 is absolutely right. I think I mentioned that in this post way back and if not, meant to. Very important! Start with less and work up so they don't avoid it. I'd get a visual or I'd pull it out.

Justin, you're right to not do the vinegar right now if she's that sick. When she's much better, you can do it...even for all your birds once per week for immune system building. I wish I realized what was wrong with her sooner. I would have mailed you some of the Ronex I bought. It's the same one you got. I bought it for a friend's bird so I sent her half to Maryland but kept half in case I needed it. I feel bad. I'm praying she is okay until the meds come tomorrow.

I leave for vacay saturday so i want to hurry and administer the meds and my friend will continue them.

Thanks Justin! If the meds come tomorrow for sure, then you'll have a few days to get a good dose in her before you leave for vacation. I'm happy you found someone to take care of your birds. If she's still holding on, then she will probably be fine. The heat and the electrolytes will help a lot.

Well i took her out the hospital cage, when I picked her up she started opening and closing her beak fastly and making a sound as if she cant breathe. I put her back and put the water in there… i hope she drinks it.

Re: canary beak over grown!
Oh Justin, I'm so so sorry! I didn't see your post because I was sleeping. I sleep crazy hours! It couldn't have helped though because once they are at that point when they do the panting, mouth opening closing as you described, there's no helping her at all. You did everything you could for her. I know how sad you feel. I'm really sorry!
I wouldn't have cared how much you "bugged" me...if you ever need to it's fine. I just feel bad when I don't see your posts.

Nahh no worries its ok. Im glar shes not suffering anymore… was just reallyyyy sad to see her go. Got close to her while caring for her.
Should i treat my other birds?
According to the paper i got in the mail with the medicine, all her symptoms point to "canker" which explains the opening the beak and stretching the neck and feces and everything.

Re: canary beak over grown!
Justin I don't know enough about it. Has she been near the other birds? Are they showing symptoms? I'd have to research it. I didn't know she was doing the mouth thing before. I thought just at the end. I'll try to research it. If not maybe you could start a new post to ask the question or tag someone that is knows. We'll figure it out. I would give all your birds the electrolyte solution just in case. I won't do any harm. It's always beneficial. First, just in case, and second, you're going on vacation so if anything stressful happens, it will optimize their health ahead of time. I was looking at the pictures in your other post. Which canary was it? Let me research and I'll be back.
