Re: first time new canaries
Maybe, but if they were born at the end of the year they could be 7 months. So 7 month minimum to (If they were born January 1013) 1 year 7 month maximum. It's good to know for mating purposes the minimum should be within the range that is "minimally required." Whatever that is for canaries before you let them mate so you don't have issues.

If they didn't tell you an exact age, and there are no bands, then you can't I guess. I'm just going by what you said. If most of the canaries are from the 2013 clutch as they told you, then they could have been born anywhere from January 1, 2013, to December 31 making them either 7 months now or up to 1yr, 7 months. I would think he would know the exact age. If you're planning on mating them in the Spring, they'll be about a year and 1/2 minimum if they're 7 months now. Older, if they are older than that. The minimal age to mate is 1 year I believe. Here's a link about best age for mating. You're probably sick of links by now...but you don't have to read them. I just like, the more info the better and then you could use what fits...or not. http://www.birdcare.com.au/canary.htm
