Scotch Fancy Canary

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Picked up a young male " Scotch Fancy Canary "
I have only seen them on the net and always wanted one.
My friend picked up a pair in the winter and thy bred for him,
so I bought one of the males.

Lovely, I have never kept this variety. Is he singing yet or just too young still. How is the song of these Scotch Fancies? I know they are bred for typt but some still have good song.

Very nice! He has a very interesting posture. How does his size compare to other types of canaries?

Thanks all!

He is just twittering a bit right now.
I heard his father sing, it's a higher pitch than normal canaries.
Very sweet, almost like a Siskin.

He is 17cm's long from beak to tail.
That's over six inches long.

The posture is called half or crescent moon.
The Japanese Hoso is the same shape, but half the size.

I have two pairs of scotch fancies,to me their song is better your normal gloster/yorkshire canary
They are good breeders as well
I call them my little vultures because of the way they perch and stare at things
Lovely bird =D>

I hope to get him a hen.
Just need to locate other breeders.
They are very uncommon here and
that's partly why I like them!
There is a breeder up in Edmonton,
that is who my friend got his parents from.
I am going to contact him to see if he has any
unrelated birds.
There should be some in Vancouver also.

Very nice birds!
How long have you been keeping them?

The parents of mine are both green and all three young
turned cinnamon.
I'm going to try and find him a light coloured hen.

Had them about a year, had 2 chicks from the pair in the pic, both were green like parents, the grey one is sitting with it's mate on some eggs, about the third day now
They are lovely birds to watch and listen to,I find them more inquisitive then other canaries, I have had gloster and yorkshire in the past.

Do they sound like Siskins to you or is it just me?
Higher pitched and melodious?
