This is my newest addition Isabela .....here in Mexico her coloring is called "Isabela Plata". She is pictured with Buble, one of my babies from 2012 and her future mate. Buble is very easy going and a wonderful singer...hence the name.... she is already bossing him around and sitting on the swing together sharing kisses....

Also pictured new photos of Basil, king of our canaries! I think he is soooo gorgeous and so does his mate, Rosemary. They make beautiful babies together.

Bob, if you had a whole clutch just like my Basil, you are a lucky man!!! What color was the mother and father of the clutch??

Mom was a red bronze. Dad was a pumpkin colored, red factor stafford. The picture I posted is the only one I believe I saved from the clutch of four. Some of the other siblings had more orange on the breast and head like Basil. Bob

Sounds nice Bob. Here in Mexico I am very limited to what is available to me colour wise. I was very lucky to find Basil. It is very difficult to get a really good photo of his color....sometimes he has a deep copper/bronze color that is so rich looking. This year since his moult, he has only intensified....Rosemary can't wait to get into his cage....haha.

I posted a photo of what I thought was our new canary hen, Isabella. I thought perhaps it was love at first sight when I put her in the cage with her future mate, Buble. They do everything together....eat out of the same cup at the same time, he feeds her many times during the day and they twitter softly together, etc. All good signs that things are progressing in the right direction. UNTIL yesterday when I saw Isabella singing! Granted she does not sing to the extent of the males, but is it possible I have one of those rare females that sings or is it more likely she is a he??? I can't believe 2 males are feeding each other, etc.

A little helpful input would be so appreciated! Sometimes Buble chases her around the cage but that is just recently. I thought he was ready and perhaps she not so much.

I have had several canary hens that sang almost as good as males. The notes and repertoire were similar - the tours just didn't have the intensity or the duration. I have NEVER seen an adult male feed another adult male (then again I don't house adult males together), but I have seen an adult hen feed another adult hen sitting on a nest. Just my two cents. Bob

Just to let you know, Canaries will feed eachother if there is no female, and singing females are rare, but do occur (I've had one!). My two male canaries used to court and feed eachother! One, Kevin, was distinctly dominant. The other one, Ringo, got sick of this after a while, and I had to keep them separate after this. My surviving canary now courts the finches!

Canaries are great pets. Whether hen or cock, they're always happy! My pet canary is always singing (starts at 6am in the morning at the moment!). I can hear him singing from outside the house. Not bad for an 11 year old geriatric/groutch

Thank you for all your compliments on my birds. I am still trying to figure out if the Isabel Plata is male or female. Somedays I think female definitely and then the singing starts! hahaha I guess I will wait until he or she shows interest in breeding.
