First Canary babies of this season!

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

First Canary babies of this season!

Post by Mexicancanary » Thu Dec 20, 2012 12:53 am

Rosemary and Basil have decided to get an early start on this coming year's canary season. She had 5 eggs and 4 babies hatched. This is a picture from today when the first one temporarily named Limoncello fledged at 15 days old. The second picture is all of them in the nest. Limoncello decided to return to the nest with his brothers and sisters....haha  The one dark one looks like he will turn out as handsome as Basil. =D>

In case anyone is wondering, the wire around the cage is extra protection from our 7 adopted cats!

Wonderful healthy babies for the holiday season!

Thanks Sherry and Debbie for the kind words.

Rosemary is a yellow buff and Basil is bronze and orange...he is really handsome. I really hope the baby looks just like him! :D

This is their third clutch together. They had 2 last year with 6 healthy babies. They have already started on their next breeding together... they caught me off guard! I have a beautiful white dominant male I wanted to breed her to, but she only has eyes for Basil. It is hard to watch when they are separated in the summer for moulting. They pine for each other... She is now in her element...she loves the whole mother thing.

I also have two other "couples" who are now acting interesting in nest building after hearing the baby twitters in Rosemary/Basil cage. Perhaps soon more babies! :D

Good Luck with your waterslagers. When are they do to hatch? Let me know what you have. =D>
