Has anyone successfully finger-tamed a pet Canary? I heard that it can be done if you start with a young one.

It is possible to finger tame most birds, canaries included, one of mine quite happily does it when she is in the mood. It does take time though, even if they are young. Good ones would be ones that have been hand raised as they are familiar with it already.
However, you have to be constant with it, although take it slowly as handling any bird who isn't used to it too much stresses them a bit. Just do it like you would any other ;)

I haven't really tried to finger tame a canary, but I've found that the longer I've had my canaries, the tamer they become. Instead of absolute panic when I approach the cage, I can now reach in some of the cages and literally grab a food dish two inches to the side of certain birds without them even leaving the perch. These are birds that I've had for several years. I'm presently working with a baby Java, and he will sit on my finger for a bit. Bob

I'm hand feeding a canary and it'll be tamer then some of my parrots.

My birds don't sit on my finger (except for Fruit, who can't fly). As previous people mention, canaries and finches often will get used to you to the point you can stick your head near them and talk to them, or remove stuff from the cage without an issues. My canary will attack my hand if he is especially groutchy or startled (ie at night) - he's 11 after all! I think he may have arthritis, so I'm going to take him to the vet when its a bit cooler.

Canaries are very inteligent and not so fearful of people. They can be tamed.
