OK the tempation was too much for me

I bought my first canary last night.
Hes a 14 mo old male. I have no idea what he is crossed with.
He has red in his brown feathers, mostly on his head. In the yellow he also has red coloring. Any thoughts?
I heard him sing this morning. It was complex, and almost sounded like a warbling at the end. Wonder if hes crossed with a timbrado or waterslager or something down the line?
Anyways heres 2 pictures I took this morning. The red doesnt show up on my camera (i have an old camera) But its definately visible if you see him in person. Its almost like a sherbert color.

He is absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations....

He definitely looks like a bronze with a strong orange/red mix. He will only get more intense in color. The king of my aviary, Basil is very much like him only more bronze. Each time Basil moults he gets more beautiful.

Very nice canary - good luck! I would consider him a variegated bronze or bronze mosiac. As for type, could be an american singer going by the short beak, and they have quite an arsenal of sounds. Warbling could indeed suggest waterslager. Timbrados don't really warble. JMO Bob

Thanks everyone! I think hes absolutely stunning. I just love the coloring on him. Does he need to be color fed? Or will his colors get darker etc on their own.
I sent a video clip to Jerry, and he said it sounds like hes a Roller. Jerry has some Rollers as well, and I listened to his videos. I must say they do sound very much alike. Although mine doesnt go into as much depth as his do. But he is still young.
I was at Pisces this afternoon picking up some food, and I happened to walk by the birds there. I saw they had a sale on canaries. There were only 2 females. 1 was brown, the other yellow.
I asked my hubby if we could get the yellow female, and he said no more birds lol.
I then went with my kids down the dog isle to get some things, turn and see my husband is gone. He then came back with a box in his hand...he got her for me

The people at the store werent sure what she is, all they said she is a "yellow" female, with an awesome temperment.
Do you think I can pair her with my male? I can tell they arent the same "type" but is that still ok?

The bronze tend to naturally hold their color the best out of all of the colorbreds - even without colorfeeding. That is why they are my favorites. Offering color food (or simply veggies containing beta carotene) will enhance the yellow into a deeper, more orange looking shade. Beets, sweet potato, kale and of course carrots work well. I've never been a big fan of artificial color feeding. I think it makes the birds look "fake". Bob

Hi Dee,
Your new yellow female is also quite lovely. They would produce some beautiful color chicks if you breed them together. I have a yellow/orange female that I use with my bronze male Basil and every time they have eggs the chicks are always different. They usually have 2 variegated and 2 orange but this season there were a couple surprises thrown into the mix. When you have a variegated the fun and surprise is waiting to see what they will produce each time. Have fun with them and enjoy.

Thanks everyone!
Well we put them together. Within half an hour they were mating. The female started building the nest, the male was feeding her. And that was that!
Its amazing at how fast this has happened! This morning the nest is pretty much complete, the females is just adding a few strings to it.
Should have some eggs very soon!

This IS the peak of breeding season for canaries in the northern hemisphere. Just goes to show that both of these birds were kept on a decent daylight schedule. My only concern would be that they are completely free of hidden diseases and parasites because obviously there was no quarantine. Bob
