coincidence or what

Last year I had nine pairs of canaries in breeding cages. I read up on what to feed then, ie greenstuffs, egg food etc etc and had no luck just three babies and I do believe two of them didnt make it.

This year I had them in breeding cages, fed them mixed canary food, egg food and soak seed and nothing else apart from the odd piece of cabbage, I have twenty beautiful healthy babies.

A quality canary seed mix, egg food (or even plain hardboiled eggs), soak seed and the "occasional" fruit or veggie should be more than sufficient to raise healthy canary babies. Most of the nutritional benefits come from the egg food and the soak seed. What is it that you felt you were "lacking in" this year that surprised you as to the success that you had? Were the parents very young last year? Had they been conditioned and on a natural daylight schedule the year before? If they weren't, that to me would likely cause an unproductive season. Been there, done that. Bob
