Canaries - let's show them to the world!

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Those are great sandri_90! I love the "bottoms up" one especially! Then the one with the beak open looks like a Politician. I looked at some canaries on craigslist here today, then realized they listed it in Maine when it was really Vermont. That's at least 3 hours from me. I was so disappointed. :( So the search continues.

Corkysgirl Thanks! You could try and look for breeders, if you can't find anything on craiglist.

Here, take a look at this:

http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/bradm.htm Hit ctrl F and search for "canary" and you should find some breeders. :D

Thank you sandri_90. It's really hard for me. I live in a very remote area. First...there are no breeders on that list for my state. If there were anyone parting with "a" bird, "anything" is really far from me. If I had a bird shipped, the closest airport is over 75 miles...and I'm very ill and pretty home bound except for doctors appointments. My husband isn't a bird person so trusting him to buy a bird, drive far and pick out a healthy bird...it's not a good thing. So my options are very, very limited. I keep hoping to find one someone has out of their home, nearby, but nearby will even be a minimum of 35 miles...which would be good, and likely because everything is at least that. The hospital I go to is 35 miles. It's crazy here! I'm trying give my finch to someone who wants him for weeks. Only one person responded to the ad but I'm 97 miles from them so they can't. It will take a miracle to get birds I want here. When I was doing better I drove the 75 miles and got finches at a not so great pet store, but that's not really an option right now or I would try to get a canary there. Well, it may take a while, but I'm just going to keep looking and hope a door opens. Someone actually found one...as in it flew to them and it was on a lost and found page on face book. They were looking for the owner. It was the perfect one, and I would have taken him but they kept it themselves when no one took him. This is the picture....and what she posted. Isn't he cute? I am looking for this little guys owner. I found him in my back yard in Windham Maine near RTE 302 and the Hubcap shop. He is a yellow Canary with a tag on his foot. If he is yours please contact me on here and let me know. Thank you for all your help and have a good day!

Isn't he beautiful sandri_90! Maybe one will fly to me one day. Years ago on Mother's Day, I went outside to my husband working on the car and l looked down and this little South Carolina Wren hopped right up to me and let me pick him up. My mother and I had a "bird thing" and birds would land right on her as she sat in her wheel chair on her porch because she would sit so still. She's gone now and I thought my mother sent her to me on Mother's Day. She was so sweet! Also, they weren't indigenous to our area. This is an image of what it looked like. So cute!

Corkysgirl I'm so sorry, I just saw your reply. What a beautiful story! I always take these kind of happenings as signs, just because I like to think that beautiful things can still happen in this (sometimes) gloomy world... Wrens are so beautiful!

And I know what you mean... I went on vacation in the Danube Delta (my favourite place in Romania) and the same thing happened to me, but with a different animal: a damselfly.

I also got to pet a frog and save a water snake, in their natural habitat. I love snakes! And I have to say that I'm extremely grateful to have done that, I took it as a favour the animals did to me :D

P.S. The snake got caught in a fish net, he wasn't moving and I immediately got a pair of scissors and cut through the damn thing. Needless to say that as soon as I started to hold him, while I was cutting the net, he started moving. After I got him out, he could hardly wait to go back in the water. I let him go after I gave him some love. :D

Cute pictures. I especially liked the upside down bird in the bowl.
Here's my Luciano just coming out of his summer molt.
