I was just reading a post where a Canary could be housed with Societies.
I have 6 males Societies in a cage 30W x 18D x 36H, could I add a male Canary
Or give should I cage him by himself?

I have heard about that before, could be a bit risky.
I think you should put him in his own cage. I think 6 societies might be pushing the limit of those cage dimensions if you add a canary. My 2 society's are in 30/18/18. If you add a canary into the cage, they might feel a little cramped IMO. Good luck.

Canaries are very friendly birds and stick to their own. The only trouble with this scenario is your cage size. Societies font mind being a little cramped, but I'm not too sure the Canary would like all the roommates in such close proximity. He wouldn't attack them but he'll be unhappy

They are compatible, but such a small space would not be comfortable for a canary and so many finches together.

Hi Barb,
I have three birds; star finch, canary and Zebra finch - all in separate cages. My canary is very old (13 years) and crotchety. He generally gets on with my Zebbie but he does NOT like my star finch (who is a pain anyway to the others).
I keep them all in separate cages and they fly in the same area, but I keep an eye on them. My canary gets a bit funny in spring, when he wants to start guarding his territory. I have fake nests for my birds, with grasses, soft feathers etc, and they love pulling them apart. My birds all play with toys. My finches have mirrors and love them. My star finch is having an involved relationship with his mirror, and doesn't really look at the others!
Good luck for your birds
Kind Regards
Zebrafincher
