Meet Steve

So, I decided to jump on board the canary wagon and get myself a very fine looking specimen at the bird show today :D I've named him Steve. I was talking with my friend about how one of the forum members has a canary like him named Steve, and then we just started referring to him as Steve, and, well, it stuck! Sheather

He has only been home now for a couple of hours, and already he is singing up a storm. He is so cute and personable. I really think I'm going to enjoy this little guy. He is my very first canary.

Yay canary! I want to jump on that wagon next year. He looks great. Is he a crested timbrado?

afinch ,Yes he is a crested timbrado, and he has a phenomenal song. If I can get it on video, I'll post it.

KarenB Ha, Awesome! My Steve is doing great, though he only sings all of two hoarse notes so far (my HEN, meanwhile, sings up a storm... but she IS an American singer, so I guess it's just in her nature!)

I don't expect much from him song-wise as he's of no special breeding, but maybe he's just a late bloomer. He's still got the best personality. Quite fearless, he is!

(not that these parakeets would hurt a fly, let alone a fellow bird)

I considered for half a second putting him in with my budgies, because I just got them a really nice mansion, but my budgies probably wouldn't appreciate an intruder into their little love nest. I can't let mine free fly because of the cat and dogs, but I wish I could.

I just remembered we also have Apollo societies in common, as well.

Ahhh I love canaries. Nothing rivals their song. Steve sounds a bit young. He's still lacking that timbrando umph vocal confidence. You'll ocassionally be reaching for ear plugs once he finds his full voice lol.

He is a 2014 baby, so he is still under a year old. His voice yesterday was much louder. I think he can sing better when he wants to, lol. He was singing really nicely when I tried to get him on video. As soon as I walked up to his cage with the camera, he stopped. I sat quietly under him (his cage is up high on top of another flight) and waited until he started again and just video recorded the first few seconds of when he started again.

He is trying to take a bath in his water dish, and he just dunks the top of his head. His normally crested 'do is now a pair of spikes sticking straight up. He looks like a little yellow devil. I put a budgie bathtub in for him, but so far I don't think he has tried it out.

Thanks! I don't know a whole lot about canary conformation, but I thought he was gorgeous :D

Yeah, it pretty much sounds like a rainforest in here. I got off light yesterday, though. I took three of my parrotfinch babies and sold those, but I also traded a male lavender for a female for my other male, AND I got a new RTPF hen (thankyouverymuch), and I picked up Steve. There is so much more I could have gotten.......

Have you posted pics of the other new finches? Did you mean you traded a male Lavendar for a Lavendar hen?
