Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

My aviary is in the basement, but you can hear every little chirp on the ground floor (even sometimes upstairs) well i am sitting here, enjoying the sound of the canaries, and at the end of one song i heard the creepiest whistle! It sounded like it was out of a horror movie. Something like "doo-do-doo-do-doo-doooo" (sorry didn't know what to use for whistling

) but I've never heard this sound below. Why dos my canary do this?

I want to hear it!
(Unless I'm being gullible and you're kidding! LOL)
I love, love, love listening to my birds after the lights go out.
My cockatiels and budgies make the craziest vocalizations in the 15-20 min after lights out.
When I had a canary, he used to do the same!
Things I've never heard before! It's always fun to listen!
You know that you can teach canaries a particular whistle? They're great singers and they can pick up simple little 3-5 note tunes.
Humum to....
13 Zebra Finches....and 2 squeeps!
3 Society Finches
6 Gouldians
1 Weaver
1 Pintail Whydah
2 Cockatiels
2 Parakeets
....along with 1 MinPin, 1 Pug, 1 JRT, 1 Yorkie, 2 Chihuahuas and 15 cats.

When lights go out, everyone snuggles down for the night... EXCEPT THE ZEBRAS , of course. Those guys keep going for another twenty minutes or so. Chasing, squabbling, arguing, yelling at each other...
At times I have to do some yelling myself. Settle down, you guys! Go to sleeeeepppp!!!!!

So my friend... did you survive Halloween? Or did the thing in the basement get you at midnight? If you're still amongst the 'living', have you noticed yourself starting to whistle haunting little tunes lately???

Hey guys! I have heard the sound one time since. I'm not sure what is making it, if maybe the canary does it after the song or its another bird. But I'm being 100% serious! It's a scary sound!

Haahaahaa...
Go down there my brave lad, and sit there untill who or what ever makes the evil sound. Record it, and post it on here, so we can all get creeped out.
Can't be as bad as one of my Zebras, who sounds like a cross between a hyena and a demented clown.

I'll try! I sit down there for a few hours a day when possible but I've only heard twice and it's strange! Lol
