Fitting in

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Fitting in

Trixie is settling in nicely. She likes to do her chirping and singing in the mornings and is fairly quiet the rest of the time. She's figured out how to manage her swing, which confused her at first. She's even calmed down a bit and doesn't immediately run to the other side of the cage when I stop to chat. And I think she's recognizing her name! She's also getting used to the schedule, which is anything but regular, though I try to tuck birds in for the night about the same time every day. Her roommate, my starling Ringo, is an owl in a starling suit and likes to stay up late, so I cover Trixie's cage and try to convince Ringo to keep the noise down, without a lot of success. However, last night Trixie was still very perky and hadn't yet gone to her sleeping spot and fluffed up when I covered her, so maybe she's going to be okay with that. The first night, she fluffed up and stuffed her head into her wing a good couple of hours before Ringo was willing to go night-night.
