Hello,

I came across this bird... Actually ended up buying it off him. It's from a breeder that carries lizards and variegated canaries and I'm assuming some type of cross happened where the skull cap for lizards isn't fully formed, but instead a band or crown takes place.

I saw that some birds were having the same crown regardless of color.

His birds also have white wing and tail tips.

It would be nice if someone could breed them to have an entire wrap around crown. That would be really.nice

Certainly very pretty. I wonder if Red Factors were used somewhere in the ancestry?

The mahogany is from the red factor family. A breeder showed me the original offspring from the red Siskin and Canary cross.. It appeared to be more like a red mahogany than red factor unless I misunderstood what he said as he had a thick accent and broken English.

I'll have new ones soon with the same bands. I wish to breed more of these.

Very difficult to see through the cage bars.
Is this bird a dark burgundy color, or is it pink? Is it possible to get better lighting and a better picture? Place your phone camera right against the bars, so that the camera part is between the bars. That way you won't have the bars in the way of your pictures.

Right now he is guarding his babies like a hawk and I can't do much for photos from the rear.

He is a mixed varigated canary of red, pink, white black and red orange. He's very nice looking, however, he doesn't have the best body. He has crossed wings and his molt never came out right. I simply took him for his color formation only.

My next pair I'll take a photo I think both have the crown like this one, but I know the hen does for sure and she's green.

I'm using an iPad I hope this pic is good enough for now.

Are you by any chance located in Australia? That is the only place I've heard of with red lizard canaries. I believe the "mutation" you have is called a broken cap lizard.

Not in Australia. It's not a broken cap lizard and it doesn't have lizard genes in it either. I verified that with the previous breeder. This is a. Actual mutation.

This bird has no lizard patterns in his feathers as well. He's hard feather black melanin.

I'll be uoloading more pics of my newer canaries soon.
