Trixie may be molting

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Trixie may be molting

Post by Siobhan » Mon Jan 12, 2015 9:30 pm

I've found three long tail feathers in Trixie's cage in the last week, so I'm hoping that means she's molting or starting to, and maybe the feathers on her little bald head with grow back. If they don't, it's okay. I love her and think she's gorgeous. But if she's molting, at least we'll know if the baldness is permanent.

She's been so lively recently, playing with her toys, taking a bath, and this morning she put on the loveliest concert. I hope that means she's happy. I bought her a new mirror with a perch on it and hung it in her cage and she ignored it. I moved it and she continued to ignore it. I put it on the cage wall minus one of the perches (they were on both sides) and she looked at it and pecked it but wouldn't sit on the perch. I took the perch off and hung it in a different place, next to her second-favorite perch. And now she spends almost as much time on that perch as her favorite. It's a nice big mirror and she can see her whole self in it and I think she likes that. Her other mirror isn't as big.

Siobhan
Maybe she wants to wait untill her feathers grow back before looking in her mirror. LOL!!!

I hope she is moulting, and that all of her feathers grow back in.
