27 day old canary is singing!

My little Weaver is just barely weaned now, still accepting food from his father on occasion - and yet all day today, he's been hopping and flitting about, inflating his throat, and warbling a quiet but on-tune imitation of the first notes of his dad's song. Isn't this really, really early for singing? I mean I'm overjoyed but wow he is a precocial little thing!

That's WONDERFUL!!! I don't know anything about breeding canaries, so I can't help you with his singing being on schedule or not. But it sure looks and sounds like he's doing wonderful

Yes, it's very early, but it occasionally happens. I had one of my male chicks begin singing that early, but he took the normal amount of time to develop a full song. I would guess that Weaver is a boy

That's wonderful news Dylan. That sweet little boy, singing already? He is a precocious little thing, isn't he?

On a similar note, two of my gouldian babies that have started to color out have also been trying out their little singing voices. It's so cute to listen to them try.

What an adorable chick and so talented at such a young age!
27 days is very young to start vocalizing but I would definitely say he is a male. My chicks start little songs at about 6 weeks of age and that is when I can sex them.
Good luck with him.
