Interested in vintage birdcage for canary- Spacing is too large .
Is there some type of mesh (zoo mesh or phantom mesh?) that could possibly be stretched along inside diameter of cage.
What kind of wire would be best? stainless steel?, powder-coated galvanized steel?,pvc coated?
Wire and clip individually?
Any material flexible that would work?
Any other suggestions to modify this cage would be appreciated- Thank- you for your time

I've never done this to an entire cage, though I have modified parts of cages that had areas with too-wide spacing. You have to be very careful not to create an even bigger problem, such as if there are any gaps that the birds could slip through or get hung up in, or loose netting that could catch toenails, etc.
Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at
www.finchinfo.com, where there are many good articles about finch care. Though you are interested in canaries, some of the same general care information can apply. We do have quite a few members who have canaries, so you will find help here. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier to answer locale-specific questions later on.

Generally a vintage birdcage is too small for a canary. 30 x 18 inches minimum is required for their well-being.

My cage is meant for larger birds, so I lined the inside of the cage with plastic hardware cloth and zip ties, it took forever, but the birds cannot get out. As a bonus, many feathers are trapped inside rather than flying around my house.

THANK-YOU all for your helpful information. This particular cage is approx 28"H x 19"D
So far, a lot of material I have looked at is too rigid and not flexible enough to use. Will check the plastic hardware cloth.
Many thanks for your time
