Question for canary breeders:
I have a male spanish timbrado (Alejandro) that is a beautiful, enthusiastic singer with a distinctive, cheerful, bright, chattering and loud song. He sings every day, rain or shine. His songs never fail to lift my moods.

I'd love to see Alejandro's singing ability passed on to future babies, and wonder what type of female canary I should pair him up with to maximize the chance of getting singers as good as Alejandro? Appreciate any suggestion.

I have had male canaries for many years & love their song. This year I got a pair of canaries so am new at breeding them.

A female timbrado would be the best pairing, especially one who has nice singing father/brothers. Which should tell you a little about her genetic potential.

Thanks Anna. I'd love to get a female timbrado, but I haven't come across any locally, and they're too expensive when the shipping cost is added.

I'm curious if anyone here has crossed a timbrado with another another canary breed?

Your best bet would be to try for another breed that sings similar. I am not too familiar with timbrado, but I think Russians are similar. You wouldn't want to cross with a border or waterslager.

You could also cross with any canary, but just like mixed breed dogs, you really don't know what the offspring will turn out. They could sing like the dad, or not.

There are plenty of American Singers for sale in my area. If I can't find a female timbrado soon, I might settle for a female American singer.

vienneparis - I used to have American singers (in fact I still have one of their sons) and have always loved their song. Many, many years ago I kept and raised colored canaries (red and blacks and agates). I found their songs louder and harsher. So if you can't find a Spanish Timbrado hen, an Am. singer might work. Most of a young male's song is learned from his dad so you should be OK there.
