Canary standing on one foot....the other is "red"...???

My handsome canary guy "Patch", has been perching with one foot held up. When I get as close as he'll allow me, it looks red or sort of "inflamed". I feel like birds feet say a lot about their health. Any ideas? I don't see any "scaling" like mites, just redness. Maybe
Cindy will have some input? Thank you everyone! Please respond!

is there a way for you to catch him and get a good, clear closeup of the foot and post the picture here? While you are holding him feel the foot, does it feel hot. Look for cuts, inflammation on the bottom of the foot.

Is there a nest in the cage (cocunut fibre) or any type of fabric? Check to see if something has become wrapped around the leg.

I will try to catch him either tonight or tomorrow. I'm off to work shortly but I'll try and post pictures later. Thank you!

Definitely catch him, if something is wrapped around his foot it needs to be removed, although it might be difficult to tell. He night have cut it, or check his nails. They grow quickly and sometimes get snagged and break or get pulled out.
