looks like it might be a non-intensive red black, also known as a bronze. colorfeeding during the moult will enhance the red pigments.

I don't have an answer for you, but I've noticed that more and more photos are posting sideways. Could this be photos from phones rather than cameras? Don't know enough about them to know if this is even possible as an answer. #-o

Just looks like damaged feathers to me. Even his body feathers look untidy. Where did he come from? Was he kept in cramped or overcrowded conditions?

he came from a pet shop and yea I think it was overcrowded i kno he didn't stop eating until it was too dark for him to see probably wasn't looked after very well he's quarentined for the next 4 weeks just in case he's brought any nasty things with him so I'll see how he goes maybe it will work itself out after his next molt.

ok, yes he might turn into quite a beautiful bird over time, especially with a little colour feeding. Btw what's that in his feed dish, looks like parrot mix?

Also I'm sure he'll appreciate a bath when he's settled. He will want to do some serious preening. ;)

its a finch seed Canary seed mix with some sunflower hearts and Niger I keep goldfinches too so it's just easier to mix it all up my gf and gf mule usually pick all the Niger out first caus it's their fav seed I'll definatly offer him a bath I usually do every day with all my birds. As for colour feeding it's not really up to me he's my dads bird he don't like to change his birds natural colour but I'll try and convince him could be a much more vibrant Canary.
