I brought Tweety home in October. Since he's been eating out of my hand for over a month now, I figured I would try letting him get some free-flight time outside his cage. He seems to really enjoy it, though he doesn't go very far. He's not "finger tame" yet but he's not afraid of me, if that makes sense.

My male Budgie, Lindsey, tolerates him pretty well (better than my 2 female Bourke Parakeets, who are very protective of their cages). In fact, Lindsey and Tweety have a common interest: FOOD !


Tweety even goes in Lindsey's cage for visits (but don't worry, I am there to "supervise").

Tweety, seems to be really enjoying his freedom, and I'm so happy he'* it off with your Budgie (that's wonderful news).

I know that our Dylan (Sheather), had great success, with keeping finches and budgies together in a large bird room, so maybe that's the solution, a large enough space.

I keep an eye on things but my Budgie is pretty easy-going. He wasn't at all bothered by Tweety coming in his cage. My 2 female Bourkes are more territorial about their cages - they don't even like each other in their cages.

But in this case, the big cage door is open and Tweety can exit in a flash if Lindsey the Budgie changes his mind. But I'd say things are still "under observation".



I think pairs of Budgies (or any bird) in breeding mode are the most dangerous, especially when multiple pairs are in a small enclosure. But I just have one Budgie and it's a male so I think it's not too risky for Tweety.

Really great pictures!! My birds don't fly far from there cages either. they like to perch on the door or get up on the top of the cage. I have some things outside the cage like a ladder and they like that too. These birds are just beautiful!

Now that Tweety has discovered "freedom", he really wants to come out and fly around! But if I drop 1 hemp seed or piece of hard-boiled egg in his food bowl, he will go right back in his cage. Canaries are smarter than I thought - and very observant !! and always looking for a snack !!

He likes rummaging through my Budgie's food dish too - there must be some type of seed in there that he likes!
