This morning skittles was looking unwell, so I quarantined him in a warm room where it is quiet. He is still looking rather ill, anything else I can do?
He is eating, and he isn't on the floor of the cage.

I would place a warm light on one side of his cage, and cover the other side with a small towel to offer shade.
Try offering his favorite foods, egg, a bit of greens, a slice of apple.
What sort of symptoms is he exhibiting?

Fluffed up, breathing a little heavy, eyes squinting at times. Not moving around too much. Still eating, but not as much as usual.

Oh Rosa, I'm so sorry. ...
It must have been something quite drastic for him to have died so quickly. At times these guys can cover up their illnesses so well, that we don't even notice that something is wrong, until they are dying
I can't remember if you have other birds, but if you do, I'd keep a very close watch over them (if they were housed together).
Big hug winging your way.

I do have one other canary, Rosa. She was in the same cage until I moved skittles. She's twittering and eating and drinking and flying about, but I will certainly be watching her.
I needed the hug, my cat wasn't available. Ran away after I applied her flea medicine.

Yeah, cat is more of an outdoorsy type. She always comes back later in the evening.
I looked at skittles droppings more carefully, they did have blood in them. Rosa's look normal, and she was rolling this afternoon.

Well, that's at least some good news.

Yes, and seeing as my aunt is up to her neck in canaries, Rosa probably won't be alone for long.
Right now the gurgling fish tanks in the other room are giving her someone to sing to.

Does Rosa actually sing ? It caught my attention that you mentioned her 'singing to the gurgling fish tank'.
I have heard of some females who do sing, but have not come across any so far.

Yep, she sings like a guy. As soon as I can catch her I'm going to check and see if she is actually a she. She's either a very submissive he or a very talented she.

Caught rosa, gave 'her' a full physical examination, sitting here wondering how two boys got along so well.

Has ha haah....
That must have been quite the surprise, lol.
So, I guess Ambrose (Ambrosio (?)) was a submissive boy, eh?
