It was a long time sins I had canaries and I've read that old canaries feet don't always look smooth but it's normal. Mi male canaries feet looks smooth and god but my females feet look a bit rugged but I can't tell if it's normal or scaly feet (many years ago I lost a canary to scaly feet, she didn't respond to the treatment and had to be put down so I'm a bit concerned).
I've tried to take photos on her feet. Her beak don't look to smooth ether.

They weren't in the best condition when they came to me. Now they get good and varied food (pellets, seed, boiled seed, sprouted seed, fruits, vegetables, boiled egg, eggfood etc.), daily clean bath water and loots of exercise and they have a special bird lamp with UV light.

An old time treatment, was to rub feet with a bit of vegetable oil.

I know that when I have had birds with dry or caked skin on their feet, I have rubbed them with some olive oil, and it's done wonders.

She has a ring from 2013 so not older than 3 years.

How often and for how long have you used the oil? Everyday or just every now and then? She really hates being caught so I don't want to stress her unnecessary.
When she came to me she had a wound under one of her feet and I treated it with washing it with water an soap and then put some lanolin on it and it healed really fin and fast!
Do you think I can use lanolin instead of olive oil? When I used oil before on a bird it always gets messy and I have problem not getting it in there feathers.

I think you could try the lanolin. I have used creams before on birds' feet, and when you use something that is easily absorbed, it doesn't make for a problem with messy feathers.

Have never used lanolin personally, sigh can't say.

What I do, is place a drop or two of olive oil in a small container and have it ready. Have some kleenex or paper towel handy to wipe fingers. Grab bird and hold in my left hand, back against palm of hand, legs sticking out. Dip finger of right hand into tiny bit of oil and rub finger against thumb . Then take bird leg between thumb and forefinger, and massage each leg and foot gently, rubbing between the toes, etc.

Not sure how often you'd have to do it , it would depend on how the feet respond.

I think I go with the lanolin then =) It's the only think that really works for my own hands.
I have one pure lanolin and one with a bit of almond oil in it, do you think it matters witch one?

I was told not to use oil, it can get into the feathers, clog the pores around the feathers.... They do make a products containing aloe for avian use that can be used on the skin safely and is soothing.
