Re: Newbie.... need suggestions
Fourth one followed.... This is, actually, the last egg in the clutch..... The fourth egg is still there in the nest.... This fourth egg has been rolled to the corner of the nest while incubating.... Either the hatching could be late or the chick might have died in the egg due to improper incubation.... Right now all 4 babies are being fed well by the first time parents

Re: Newbie.... need suggestions
All 4 chicks have started jumping the nest now and then.... Their tails are a half inch length and with their ting wings, they are flapping a lot....
My hen is preparing a nest, two days ago, she dropped an egg with very thin shell while standing on the perch...
May be, she has spent all her energy feeding the chicks, i put the divider immediately and seperated the hen from the cock and chicks...
Cock is feeding the chicks vigerously from last 2 days, hen has egg food, grains, greens, apple, mineral mix and calcium plus in water....
No second egg yet.... Can i assume that her second egg cycle lasted with just one thin shelled egg?? Will she lay again?? She is busy building her nest and o dont want her to waste her energy feeding the chicks now... Chicks are 17-19 days old as of today....

If Daddy is fine feeding the chicks, and Mom is busy building another nest (and you want more babies), I'd leave her be. Make sure she is getting plenty of calcium, either with a mineral mix (oystershell, cuttlebone, egg shells) or with a liquid calcium added to the water about once a week.

Daddy is pretty much dedicated to feed the chicks.... Even if i allow him into the female compartment, he is not interested in the female for now, he hops into the compartment, eats a mouthful of egg food and looks to come back and feed the begging chicks..... He is also feeding the hen now and then....Sally wrote: If Daddy is fine feeding the chicks, and Mom is busy building another nest (and you want more babies), I'd leave her be. Mom already built a nest, however, dropped a thin shell egg (first one of her second cycle) two days ago.... Its 3rd day today and no egg so far.... She has liquid calcium, multi vitamins egg food grains greens etc to feed on....
I am interested in having 2nd and 3rd batch of chicks before i seperate the male and female....
