canry seems constipated
Hi all
First time active participation here so please go easy on me. Probably asking dumb questions.
My canary (male, seems to be buff, yellow and white ,about a year old) shows every sign that I myself do when constipated. Sitting puffed up on is perch, moving its tail, chirping sadly to himself and than bracing into riot and singing when business is done.Anyway I can help the poor chap?
Thanks
Yossi

Hi Yossi,
So you sit on a perch all puffed up, chirping sadly to yourself as well ???
Sorry, couldn't help myself, lol.
Regarding your little fella....
Can you tell me a bit about your boy's diet?

seed - 2 hopers on cheep spanish, one veracraft manue. There is something he likes in the cheep
stuff (dried frut) and when thats finished seems togo between them.
egg food - almost evry day.
cuttlebone - always present.
crushed shell - removed when truble begun.
greens - every day mostly spraut (brokoly / sun flower) ,apple, kale (now I have started eating kale
myself - go figure) when truble started - cucambers were added. of course only one kind a
day and he allways finishing it.
others things to know: in house. weather shifting.I am a smoker. daylight / lighting not regular.

The diet seems fine. The addition of the cucumber may help, since it is mostly water, though I guess fiber is supposed to help with constipation.
Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com. Even though the articles are aimed at finches, canaries are also finches, so some of them may help. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier for members to help you.
Btw, there is no such thing as a dumb question, so ask away!

Diet seems ok, although I'm not familiar with the seed brand names.
I'd offer him some slices of Orange, cut across, also a grape once in a while.
Does he get a bath?
A shallow dish with some nice lukewarm water will be enjoyed every day.
Does he have enough room to fly around?
Sometimes not getting enough exercise can cause constipation.
Kale is very healthy, for both of you .
Don't worry about the spelling.
Where are you from? I'm from Canada by the way.
Let us know how things go.

Re: canry seems constipated
Thank you all , very nice and worm start. canary is much better now. Cucumber worked and added to the menu on weekly basis. After a lot of tinkering flight cage is functional now and little Yasha seems pretty pleased with it. I see it as a work in progress. Still trying to improve, mainly looks but also to make it even more useful ,so on to housing board browsing and perhaps asking silly questions like always.

Hi Yossi,
Glad to hear that the little guy is feeling better.
What's the weather like in Yerushalayim?
Is it still raining, or is Spring in the air?

Spring is in the air all right but weather is not very stable. Here we have mainly two seasons and the transition is short and shifty. However as Jerusalem is relatively cold in winter and I am thinking to do something in the balcony - Aviary or some cages setup a word from Canada might be what the Dr. ordered.
Again thanks for a worm welcome.

Yea, I know about the seasons in Israel. I grew up near Haifa, and later in Karmiel, before coming to Canada .
March, was definitely always a funny month, and I guess things haven't changed much.
Regarding an aviary on the balcony....
It could be done, as long as you make sure to supply shelter from both rain and sun, depending on the season. In the Winter, a source of warmth, like a clip on lamp over a perch in one covered sheltered corner. In the Summer, plants, to shelter from the sun, and lots of water, both for drinking and bathing.
Your Canary, would need to be slowly acclimated to being outside, rather than just being placed out, after being inside.
Good luck.
