Canaries 2017 Breeding

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Canaries 2017 Breeding

Post by Chrismurdoch3 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 10:47 pm

Over the past few years i have enjoyed following breeders on youtube and watching their videos of their week to week progress on their breeding pairs. So i figured maybe ill give it a try with my canaries this year and see how i like it. So here is the the first videos let me know what you think and any advise to make the videos better. I am going to try and post one a week until babies have their first molt. Also any tips on these types of canaries would be welcomed as i am very new to the red mosaic strain.

Pretty birds.
I especially like the pair in the black cage.

Is everyone on eggs at this point?

Personally I would have opted for larger cages. Once the kids fledge, it's going to get pretty tight in there (especially the small white cage, depending how many babies hatch).

Yes all of the pairs are on eggs and this past couple of days 2 of the pairs hatched.
The cages are smaller than what i like especially the white one i had initially intended to breed two of the pairs individually in separate window well flights that i had created, but the canaries didn't seem interested while in the window flights so thats why i had brought them in and only had these two cages available.
I did order another larger cage and it is supposed to arrive this week so i will transfer the one pair into that cage.
All of the chicks once weaned will go into the window flights for the summer.
Here are a couple links of the fertile eggs and hatched chicks.

Thanks for sharing the videos Chris.

That baby is super gorgeous...absolutely love the hair-do, lol. Looks like a fuzzy halo O:-) Oh so cute.

Good luck with the rest of the egg babies :D
