Mealworms and Soldier flies

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Mealworms and Soldier flies

Post by Christian » Fri May 19, 2017 8:11 pm

Any way to crunch up dried black soldier fly pupae. The are chewy and not crunchy like mealworms. So my canaries can't break them up. So they ignore them. Also do canaries like live mealworms?

I have never tried soldier flies, so I can't comment on them.

In regards to live meal worms and Canaries:

I have seen mine pick at them but not really eat them.

If your looking for a good source of protein, then I would strongly recommend hard boiled eggs. If you want to up the protein some more, buy some freeze dried mealworms, crush them to bits, and mix into the eggs.
