Yellow Mosaic Canary

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Yellow Mosaic Canary

Post by Razasings » Fri Jul 07, 2017 9:00 pm

Yellow Mosaic Pair with 5 chicks, 4 were born with pink eyes and one with black eyes??? As I did my research I was under the knowledge that the cinnamon factor only happens with melain birds, but my Pair does not have a single feather of melain. Just a bit mind boggled?????

Hi.

There are plenty of recessive mutations that can lead to a lack of pigments, why do you think the chicks are cinnamon? Any pictures?

I can post some pictures, the reason why I thought cinnamon was because the chicks eyes are pink, and there is only one of the clutch of 5 that are dark eyed.

They still too young to identify the color.

You will have to wait to see what recessive genes the parents are carrying, but being they yellow mosaic, it might be the lutino.

Thank you Ricardo, I was just astonished because the parents are both dark eyed, well I mean the hen seems like a little red eye when the light hits a certain way???
