Hello everyone, I'm new here (in fact that's my first post )...
Well, 3 days ago I've purchased a canary with a weird round nail, the pet-store keeper assured me that it's not really important. But my past experiences taught me not to trust everything a shopkeeper says.

As you can see in the picture his nail is completely round...
What can/should I do about it? Can I trim it? should I leave it be?

It looks like the nail has overgrown and fully spiraled around. This seems to be the end of the nail, which is pointed toward the right:
You may be able to fit a piece of paper or the edge of a nail clipper between the end of the nail and the section that spirals around to see the end more clearly.

You could try using a small penlight or something to shine through the nail; you should then see the quick, or the blood supply of the nail. Avoid the quick, and clip the nail where the quick ends. Hopefully this will be enough to get the nail back to a normal shape. If not, re-trim the nail after a few days.

Trimming nails and beak
It's about the same process as trimming a cat's or dog's claws:

I have seen this in spice finches, it requires several trims over the course of two to three weeks to correct, all of his nails are too long.

Daymuun I had a society finch with nails as long as them not soiraled but as Dylan just said lile the other nails

I used to hold her up in the light and I could see the red line and I would just snip the part after that off she would wiggle abit as I cut it but I never caught the red line

I read that if the nail stars to bleed then you shud use super glue and put this over the nail but I never had this problem hope it helps

I've just trimmed all of his nails including the weird "spiral" one... Surprisingly this latter had no quick/vein in it... I'm afraid that it's a dead nail nail and that it won't grow back...
PS: One of the nails started bleeding, but I stopped the bleeding by using some of my saliva and Potassium Alum.

Daymuun that’s good it’s worked out then good luck I don’t know much about dead nails etc I’ve only had that one with the nail problem

Daymuun Glad you were able to trim the nails yourself, they definitely needed trimming. There are products online or in pet stores to stop bleeding, but in a pinch, you can just dip the end of the nail in a bit of flour, and that will work. I just keep a small jar of Blood Stop on hand, doesn't cost much and lasts forever.
