2 or 3 clutches? Prevention advice also needed

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

2 or 3 clutches? Prevention advice also needed

Post by Clairecanary15 » Thu May 17, 2018 5:15 pm

Hi all

My canaries are in the throws of the breeding session at the moment. I was wondering how many clutches is best for a hen?... one of my hens is now feeding her 2nd clutch.

How would I prevent further eggs..I have an aviary..would fake eggs be a wise purchase? I really dont want to remove all 3 cock birds. Does the breeding naturally stop..the cock birds are very amorous. .hard to believe that they loose interest..I know the moult calms things later on,

Claire

Hours of light and temperature will have a huge factor on the breeding cycle.

So the longer the day and hotter the temperature the breeding continues. When does the moulting begin? Is it directly after the breeding season?
