Hi Everyone! I had a pair of red factor canaries. They have 2 chicks (12 days old) in the nest. Today, the female died (I’m not sure if the male killed her). Do the chicks still need to be kept warm (they’re starting to get their feathers). The male is feeding the chicks.

What temperature is the room? My gouldian finches started leaving their baby alone when it was around the same age, and it stayed warm enough. Since there are two chicks, rather than just one, they should have an easier time staying warm.

Thanks for your help! What temp should the little ones be kept at?

70+, around 80 would be ideal but at this age room temp should be OK. If the male feeds them, they will make it.

If the male is looking after the chicks they should be fine. A single parent looking after chicks can be stressful for the male so get him a female once the current chicks fledge into their adult colors.

Thank you Sheather and CathyCraftz! The male canary raised the little canaries at room temperature!
