What cages do you use for breeding canaries ? Wood or all wire.

I'll throw in my opinion here. All wire cages can make a bird nervous, because they can see things coming at them from several directions. They can be more nervous and flighty in an all wire cage.

A box cage (or an all wire cage with fabric on the top and sides) can give the bird some security. Birds scatter when they see something come at them, or even a shadow going over the top. A box cage eliminates that problem.

I've seen birds that just couldn't settle down in an all wire cage. When I moved them to a box cage they got quite a bit calmer. That is important to the bird's health, and especially when nesting or feeding chicks.
