Preventative Meds for Canaries?

Hello! I'm a new canary owner and already in love. What an incredible personality these little guys have! Reading all the cautionary advice online about mites and worms can really be alarming! So what is the real deal? Do I need to give him preventative mite treatments and dewormers? If so, what are the safest ones to use?
