How many canaries would you suggest? Do they prefer to be alone?
Peace.

Re: How many canaries
Not sure any birds like being alone, i was always led to believe all birds should have a buddy with possible exception of parrots?
Remember however...same sex if you don't want babies!

Re: How many canaries
Canaries are solitary by nature. In the wild, they form loose flocks in the fall. I have quite a few Canaries in a large aviary, and they space themselves out over the entire area. I've never seen them snuggle, like Zebras or Society finches.
The hens are more likely to be in a loose flock than the males, at least in my aviary.
If you have a male Canary, than for sure it should be in a cage by himself.
