Rosa bourke breeding

Post by Jmaster » Mon Sep 09, 2013 8:03 am

Hello,
Does any know any tips to get rosa bourke breeding?
I have a pair in a flight cage with finches.
I've been told there male and female.
Anyone know best way to check?
I've placed a nest box in there but they show no interest.
Thanks

how old are they...hens should be at least 1 yr to 14 months old before breed. Are the finches interfering, going into the box?

The box size should be about 8x8. What is the bedding in the box? DNA feather testing is a sure bet to confirm the sex... AvianBiotech.com

Where are you located...if in Canada you can try Accu-Metrics

best thing to use on the bottom of the box is about 2 inches of kiln dried pine shavings. If this is a true pair the hen will go in and work the box removing some of the shavings and making an area to lay in.

Some breeders recommend using reptile cypress bark, it is heavier and the hen will remove less of it. Do not use cypress bark meant for mulching gardens, some are treated with chemicals. Pet grade is better.

Do not use any cedar shavings, the oil in the cedar mixed with the urine of the young can give off fumes which is said to be harmful to the chicks.
