Sick lineolated parakeet

Post by FinchsRUS » Sun May 01, 2016 11:21 pm

My lineolated parakeet makes marbley rough sounds when he breathes. He's obviously not feeling well at all.

What can I give him? I don't know of any bird vets in the area. (Fort Worth)

This vet, Dr. Craig Verwers, is an avian vet. He came to the FW Bird Club meeting last year to give a talk, sounded very impressive. Several members have used him and like him.

Do you hear a clicking noise when he exhales ?
If so , he most likely has air sac mites. The treatment for it is quite simple really , one-two drops of "SCATT by Vetafarm" for 3-4 weeks should clear it up.
I still suggest you take him to an avian vet just to make sure .
