Re: Green Cheek vs Sun Conure??
Greys are dusty just like cockatiels and cockatoos. They require A LOT of attention and A LOT of different things to do to keep them happy when you are away. If they get bored they will scream, pluck etc. Congo's are more one person birds where as the timneh is better suited for families. Congo's are larger than timneh's as well. They are extremely smart, can talk and mimic noises. Some greys don't talk so don't base your decision mainly on the fact that they are known to talk. Greys are known for picking up a sound such a microwave beep, doorbell, baby cry etc or even a human voice and mimic it so well that people will think that the grey is actually the person talking, someone's at the door etc. They are a queiter species. They need a varied diet (as do all birds) of pellets, fruits, veggies, pasta etc. and seeds. I have heard/read that greys tend to prefer and bond more to a person that is the opposite sex as them but I don't know how true that is and I can't really see it mattering if you're going to be handling the bird all the time.
A good thing to do is to read about them on a forum. No matter how much research you do about them on the internet and articles you read you will not find any more valuable information than you can get on a forum. http://www.parrotforums.com/forums.php is a good forum for parrots.

Re: Green Cheek vs Sun Conure??
We have a green cheek conure and he is very loving and playful and compared to a dusky lori I had many years ago he's very independent and much much quieter. He's happy to play in the cage if you're in the same room with him, he shows off and clucks in his bathing dish and generally is goofy. He seems to like everyone except children, he likes to bite them to get a reaction.
He's the loudest in the morning when the sun comes up, which is true with most birds I suppose, but he's NO WHERE as loud as a sun conure. We've been making kiss noises as we are in other parts of the house and he uses that noise to call back and forth to us instead of screaming - most of the time.

Re: Green Cheek vs Sun Conure??
The following are our birds African Congos, Umbrella cockatoos, Caiques, Blue Amazon, Yellow head Amazon, Eclectus, Ducorp cockatoo. If you like a real talker and go with African Congo. If you like quite birds then stick with finches. Ciaques are so much fun but loud little one. Cockatoos are very affectionate but very demanding as well. My two congos Kio and Bobo talk very much – They do scream once in a while when a storm is coming or full moon. They will tell my toos " Bad boy Sam" once he screaming around to go bed...
We have them in pair ( either two males or two females- the only true pairs are ecletus and Toos)
It is not for breeding reason – while we are at work they will entertain each other. When we are home they are outside of cages at walk around the house. No matter how and what you train the parrot they will chew – so no expensive fancy furniture in my house. We spend more money for their King cage then for our stuff.
It is lots of work but there is so much reward. It is a huge commitment to care for a parrot. All it needs is love and care- I was not kidding when I say we have will for our birds as they out live us.
Good luck with your decision,

Re: Green Cheek vs Sun Conure??
It doesn't have to be silent, I don't care if they chatter and stuff like that as it will be upstairs in my room, but it cannot yell like my uncle macaw does on occasion. If it has it's moment every now and then that is fine, but it just cannot be loud enough to interrupt my mom
But I do want it to be able to talk, but that is not at the top of my list
