If you click on the original photos, they get larger. This one is a male. In order to be a female, it would need to have a lot more white on its cere than just lines around the nostrils. There are a lot of males with white lines. The white on the females does start out as lines when they are in the nest, but by the time they are fully flighted, that will usually have spread to more of an over-all whitish color, and it will be mixed with some pale sky blue. The ones that look really lavender pink are usually the males, and they stay that way until they molt and get their adult blue cere.

He looks to me to be a single factor dominant pied. Especially if you say he has iris rings. The belly color on dominant pieds tends to be at the top portion of the chest, whereas on a recessive pied, the belly color tends to be down near the legs. The wing markings on a recessive pied will usually have random white areas throughout, but this one seems to have even wing markings, with the clear (white) area all together in one solid area, on the lower halves of the wings.

I lean toward him being a greywing rather than a clearwing, but that's hard to tell due to not being able to see very much body color, in order to judge whether the body color is bright or washed out. Also, his cheek patches are pied out, so the photos don't show how pale or dark of violet color they are. (On a clearwing, the cheek patches will be a bright, dark violet.)

I think he looks like a sky blue.

So I think he is a greywing dominant pied sky blue male.

Hope this helps! :D

Hahahaha yes!!! Budgie genetics are just as bad if not worse than zebra genetics! They're both so confusing to me lol. I should just stick with the simpler species: gouldians, Linnie's, parrotlets etc lol. I find their genetics much easier to deal with.

Finnie!! Thank you! I think she is actually a he then because like you said the cere is a real pinkish color and does not look white at all. His only color is othe top of his chest which is sky blue. Anything underneath that is all white. The color on his rump is is darker than his chest color but he really has no other distinctive color or markings except around the head and neck that you see in the pictures.

Now I need to do a bunch of research on budgie genetics and what to look out for if I ever decide to pair him up with a girlfriend.

There are a few budgie forums out there, but here is a link to my favorite: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/ind ... 5d&act=idx

The Budgie Place website is a good place for the basics, but they kind of over simplify, and there is a lot more to it than that. But it is a good way to start out learning, and then when you run into more details later, it can make sense when you build it onto what you learn at the Budgie Place.

I think it's funny that you find Gouldian genetics easier, whereas for me, I started with budgie genetics, so I find the Gouldian genetics to be a little more complicated.

Thank you for the link to the forum Finnie. It's great!! I just browsed a couple if color and genetics posts on there and it's extremely helpful and breaks things down into categories which makes the entire understanding of the genetics much easier to understand.
