Yes, I guess their colours do match. Freebee, has the blue though and Opie is pure white.

Hi Dylan.
I know that what you say is true. I will still work with Freebee, and do my best with Opie as well. At this point Opie is scared and shy, but already not going into a panic when I walk by his cage. It's not much, but it is a start. I couldn't leave him at the SPCA. And a $7.00 adoption fee for such a lovely boy. Who could resist???

I would keep the two apart for a while, if you could tame both individually, they will remain tame together later on.

The are apart at this stage. Honestly, I don't know if Opie will tame. The people at SPCA, thought he might be between 2-6 years old. I know he's an adult, but because of his colour or lack thereof, it's impossible to tell his age.

We'll see how it goes...

Colt
Thanks Colt.
Opie, is doing well. He is a beautiful bird, but afraid of people. He goes balistic when I go near his cage, and even more so, when I put my hand in the cage. He has accepted some spray millet from me but is extremely leary of human hands.

I have tried to put him together with Freebee, but he becomes a bit of a bully at that point. He is bigger, so I don't want to subject Freebee to abuse. When she walks on the roof of his cage, he tries to bite her toes  which is a little too kinky for her, so she screams at him and goes elsewhere in her travels. :-D

Ooh, love him! How did I miss this?!!

How lovely that someone found him. I can't imagine he would have survived for very long in the cold.

So fortunate! So few birds are rescued.
I bet you're loving him! What does little Freebie think? Happy to have a friend, I bet!

So funny how similar they look!
You don't see too many of the snowy white budgies. But you've got two!

How's he doing now that you've had him for a few weeks??

As always, I love your story!
It reminds me of a story that I wrote about my little dog, Gus. He's a little chihuahua who at the age of 7-8 weeks, was abandoned on the streets of NYC in October. He had sarcoptic mange (and demodectic mange, we'd later discover) and his fur had fallen out; he was one giant, infected sore. He was all bones and small enough to fit in one hand. I dressed him in altered kids socks and little capes, handmade from soft fleece.

So I wrote a story about his experience, from his point of view. It appeared in Dog Fancy and a few other publications. Now I need to find it! LOL

Hi Mia.

Opie, was found, and turned into the Humane Society before it turned cold. Thank God for that. There is no way he could have survived in the kind of temperatures we've been having lately (-20's with wind chill factors in the -30's).

Opie, is a pretty little fella, but afraid of people's hands and people in general. I guess he didn't have an easy childhood, and he's not a youngster anymore.

I tried Opie and Freebee together. No go. He tried to bully her around.

By the way, Opie is pure white, Freebee, has an ice blue chest. Posting a picture of Freebee.

Ah, you're right. He does have an icy chest. So pretty.

I'm not surprised he was bossy. 'Keets are super pushy birds. I'd let them spend time together outside the cage, in neutral territory to eliminate territorial-ness from the equation.

Hopefully they'll do nicely together! My pair is just the sweetest couple. They're so darn lovey, always "kissing" (it's actually them regurgitating food for the other but it looks like french kissing and has a similar meaning -- affection.)
They're great to watch together. So spunky and chatty. Very happy little creatures, parakeets.

I still think Freebee is a girl. Just seems like a girlie bird. She's also quite a bit smaller than Opie. Just a petite little thing.

lovezebs -- Ah, and Opie's a boy so you have a boy-girl pair! You could have little keetlets!

I believe mine are both boys. They are about as bonded as can be! I just love watching them.
